How Taskr works offline and without an account

Taskr is a free todo app with Kanban and Calendar views that works offline and needs no sign-up. Most todo apps ask for an email address before you can add your first task. Taskr does not, and this page explains what that means in practice: where your tasks live, what changes if you sign in, and what the limits are.

Open Taskr

Using Taskr without an account

Open taskr-todo.vercel.app and start typing. Every view and feature is available straight away: the list, the Kanban board, the Calendar with its week view and Unscheduled tray, subtasks, natural language due dates, the Ctrl+K command palette, undo after delete, dark mode and the 1, 2, 3 keyboard shortcuts. There is no trial, no sign-up wall and no "upgrade" button.

Your tasks are saved on your own device as you go. Close the tab, come back tomorrow, and they are still there.

Where your data is stored

WhatWithout an accountSigned in
Your tasks, subtasks, statuses, descriptions and due dates In your browser's IndexedDB, in a database called TaskrDB, on this device only In Taskr's Supabase (PostgreSQL) database, under your user ID, and cached in the browser
Light or dark theme In your browser's localStorage In your browser's localStorage
The app itself (HTML, scripts, styles) Cached by a service worker after your first visit Cached by a service worker after your first visit
Your email address and password Nothing is collected Held by Supabase Auth; Taskr stores no passwords itself

Nothing you type as a guest is sent to a server. Taskr uses Vercel Web Analytics for anonymous page-view counts, which does not include your tasks.

How offline works

  1. On your first visit, a service worker caches the app so it can load again without a network connection.
  2. Every change you make is written to IndexedDB on your device as it happens, so there is no "save" step and nothing to lose if the connection drops.
  3. If you are signed in, each change is also sent to Supabase. When there is no connection, it waits in a queue on your device and is sent automatically when you reconnect, in the order you made it. A sync indicator in the header shows whether you are online.

This is the same approach used by most installable web apps: the app shell is cached, the data is local first, and the network is optional.

What changes when you sign in

Signing in is optional and free. It takes an email address and a password. When you create an account, the tasks you already have on this device come with you: they are uploaded to your account and then kept in sync on every device where you sign in.

Three things need an account, because they need somewhere durable to store or fetch tasks:

Honest limits

Deleting your data

As a guest, clearing site data for taskr-todo.vercel.app in your browser removes everything. If you have an account, delete your tasks in the app, then contact the author at the address in the README to have the account removed.
